Topsoe will supply tail gas treatment catalysts to BASF

Haldor Topsoe has entered into an agreement with BASF’s Catalysts division on the marketing of Topsoe’s line of tail gas treatment catalysts for sulphur recovery units. Tail gas treatment catalysts are used to remove sulphur compounds as the last stage of a Claus sulphur recovery unit in order to meet local emission standards.

The Haldor Topsoe products covered by this agreement are the TK-220 quadralobe extrudates, TK-222 rings, and TK-224 spheres. The agreement covers all regions of the world, with the exception of North America (USA, and Canada).

BASF will manage the business through its Adsorbents group, which is part of the Process Catalysts and Technologies business. The tail gas treatment catalysts associated with this agreement are complementary to BASF’s existing adsorbent product portfolio.

As part of this agreement, BASF will assume full responsibility for sales and distribution of the tail gas treatment catalysts in the territory.

Building on success
“With this agreement we expect to build on the success we have had with tail gas treatment catalysts in North America. BASF is recognised as a leader in Claus catalysts, and adding the Topsoe tail gas treatment catalysts enables BASF to design and offer custom packages for the complete sulphur recovery train,” said Barry Cooper, Vice President of Refinery Catalysts, Topsoe’s Catalyst Division.
