Technip chooses Metso’s high performance valves for Algiers refinery
Metso has won an order from Technip to supply the latest generation of its automated on-off valves and actuators to the Algiers Refinery, 10 km South of Algiers, in Algeria. Metso will be the main on-off valves supplier of Technip for the Algiers Refinery’s Rehabilitation and Adaptation project which aims at revamping existing facilities to increase capacity of crude oil processing from 2.7 to 3.6 MTPY and adapting to meet Euro – 2009 specifications for gasoline.
Metso’s high-performance on-off valve and actuator solutions were selected because of their high and proven quality and reliability in particular in the most demanding refining applications worldwide. Thanks to unique valve technology and metal and soft seated designs, Metso’s valve solutions provide long lasting tight shut-off with fast and safe operation together with reduced fugitive emissions. They will help the plant to meet its challenges of optimizing the various units of its process via the modernization of the instrumentation, and sustaining for the medium and long term the production of clean fuels both for the local and exports markets, as well as reducing maintenance and plant shutdown costs.
Pascal Marette, Global Commodity Family Manager, Electricity and Instrumentation comments: ‘’Technip has selected Metso on-off valves because Metso has been very reactive and positive in both technical and commercial aspects. Furthermore, Metso confirmed that they will be able to respect Algiers Refinery Project schedule.’’
Metso delivery includes stainless steel, carbon steel valves, Neles trunnion mounted ball valves, metal and soft seated valves, triple eccentric NeldiscR and Jamesbury soft-seated ball valves, valve ranging in size from 3/4” to 24”, for all of the areas including RFCC, naphtha processing units, and new LPG storage unit. The delivery will comprise all together more than 145 automated on-off valves for a delivery scheduled in Spring 2013. The contract value will not be disclosed.
Algiers refinery was built in 1964 and produces motor fuels and LPG for local market and naphtha and fuel oil for export. It belongs to Sonatrach, the largest oil and gas company in Algeria and Africa. The rehabilitation process of Algiers Refinery is scheduled to be ready at the end of 2013 and is part of a broader oil Refineries upgrading Program for the production of clean fuels in Algeria initiated by Sonatrach. Technip acts as EPC Contractor for the Algiers Refinery Rehabilitation and Adaptation project.
