Hyperion to supply an operator training simulator to Advanced Petrochemicals

Hyperion Systems Engineering (Hyperion), the leading independent solutions provider to the global process industries, announces that it will supply the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) for the propane dehydrogenation plant (PDH) of Advanced Petrochemical Company (ADVANCED), in Saudi Arabia.

Hyperion will be the sole supplier for this OTS system, and responsible for the functionality, handover and maintenance. This project is for the provision of an OTS system with a fully emulated DCS system, representing the Honeywell DCS System.
Hyperion’s emulated OTS solution is a cost effective high-fidelity simulated operator training solution that realistically resembles the operator station appearance and functionality, while at the same time, increases the training capabilities and flexibility of the system.

The OTS will offer a highly realistic representation of PDH plant operation and will provide a unique environment for developing operation skills and studying detailed process behavior, using customized simulation models. Various operational conditions will be provided for the simulated plant, including start-up, shutdown, emergency conditions and normal operational transients.
Hyperion’s turnkey responsibilities on the OTS project will include:

- Development of first-principle dynamic process models which can describe the plant behavior with high-fidelity, using DYNSIM™ dynamic simulation software.

- Emulation of Safety Systems and Control Schemes

- Emulation of Honeywell DCS interfaces using the actual plant graphics

- Integration of the process models with the emulated Safety System and emulated DCS

- Development of Instructor and Field Operator Station

- Hardware and software procurements

- Installation and commissioning at site

Provision of appropriate training and documentation (manuals and specifications)
Abdullah M. Al-Garawi, President & CEO of ADVANCED stated, “This is an important project for us, as this is our first investment in OTS systems. We hope that selecting an experienced company like Hyperion will result in a successful delivery, on time and in line with the budgeted cost.”

Mr. Dean R. Jones, Executive Vice President of Hyperion stated, “We feel honored by the fact that ADVANCED has selected Hyperion for the provision of its first Operator Training Simulator. Hyperion has the skills and expertise to satisfy customer requirements and ensure maximum value can be obtained from their investments in simulation systems. We are committed to meet and exceed their expectations.”
