Challenge accepted - technology-driven transformation

Koch-Glitsch leads the industry with innovative solutions to optimize the performance of large columns. Using advanced mechanical designs and technologies such as ported downcomer, sectionalized beam and pinned truss technologies, Koch-Glitsch enhances process performance and reduces equipment installation time by minimizing or eliminating the need for field welding.

To increase overall design accuracy and quality, Koch-Glitsch uses 3D modeling that allows its designers to see the physical dimensions of the equipment and understand how it fits in the context of the vessel and other design elements. The same real-view of a design is now available to Koch-Glitsch customers, who can review their projects with a virtual walk-through of their equipment design and see the actual size and space of the equipment in the vessel. Koch-Glitsch will have a 3D virtual reality station available at Achema (Hall 4.0, Stand D1), so visitors can walk through a distillation column.

Koch-Glitsch’s latest development in its family of SUPERFRAC® trays is the SUPERFRAC® XT tray.  Demonstrating unparalleled capacity and efficiency in several recent commercial applications, the SUPERFRAC XT tray is engineered for the most demanding fractionation services in large diameter towers, which often require complex multiple flow pass designs. In a retrofit application, a 28 ft [8.5 m] propane/propylene splitter was revamped with 6-pass SUPERFRAC XT trays, which increased overall tray efficiency to 94 percent. In other Ethylene and Propylene splitters, efficiencies of 92 to 100 percent have been demonstrated. An installation of the first ever 8-pass SUPERFRAC trays in a new 33.5 ft [10.2 m] Propane/Propylene splitter has been in service for 2 years. The trays exceeded design capacity and product purity from the initial start-up, and overall tray efficiency is above 90 percent.

FLEXIPRO™ valve tray technology provides the reliability of a large fixed valve that delivers enhanced performance combined with an operating range close to that of a movable valve. Exceeding the performance of similar fixed valve trays, FLEXIPRO valve trays offer increased tray efficiency, higher capacity, higher turndown ratio with no increase in pressure drop, and enhanced push and sweeping effect over the tray deck that removes solid deposits to mitigate the risk of fouling and achieve longer run lengths.

Engineered for maximum fouling resistance, the new PROFLUX® 40X severe service grid provides higher fouling resistance compared to conventional grid and structured packings. It is ideal for most severe applications, such as vacuum towers processing very heavy feedstock residues and FCC Main Fractionator slurry pumparound zones. PROFLUX 40X severe service grid also provides higher capacity, lower pressure drop, and superior mechanical resistance to compression compared to other grid packings.

Koch-Glitsch, a premier designer and supplier of energy saving solutions, offers dividing wall columns and SUPERHIDIC® technology. With more than 25 dividing wall column installations in new and revamp towers, Koch-Glitsch is a leader in this technology. Koch-Glitsch and TOYO Engineering are partnering to distribute TOYO’s innovative SUPERHIDIC distillation system. With a unique heat recovery configuration, SUPERHIDIC technology reduces energy consumption by more than 50% compared to conventional distillation systems.
