Samsung awards Mammoet new contracts for petrochemical sites
Mammoet is pleased to announce two new contracts with Samsung Engineering (Thailand) Co Ltd to provide transport and heavy lift works as part of two petrochemical projects in Map Ta Phut, Rayong Province. The region is home to a major infrastructure development plan aimed at generating an industrial base for Thailand’s modernization.
The first of these, the Propylene Oxide (PO) Project, will center on the transport of heavy and oversized columns from Map Ta Phut deep sea port to Hemaraj Industrial Estate, using Mammoet Hydraulic trailers. The second, the Olefins Reconfiguration Project (ORP), will also incorporate heavy goods transport from Map Ta Phut port; in this case to Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in a different location. Both sites are approximately eight kilometers from the port.
The ORP Project will also deploy the Mammoet PTC35DS crane to lift heavy and oversized columns over a 7.5-meter pipe-rack. Originally, the client planned to build a bridge over the top of the pipe-rack to enable the columns to be maneuvered safely to their final destinations. However, this would have taken months of planning, engineering and construction, added unnecessary complexity and risks to the project, and incurred significant extra cost.
Mammoet provided a more efficient solution, which has enabled it to secure the work. The PTC35DS crane can complete a solo lift with more than sufficient capacity at radius to navigate the pipe-rack crossing safely, while causing minimum disruption to on-going site activities. It requires less engineering preparation than the alternative proposal and will deliver valuable cost savings for the client.
Mammoet will continue to work closely with Samsung Engineering Thailand to ensure the PO and ORP Projects proceed smoothly and according to plan.
