HySWEET® the best option for mercaptan removal from natural gas

HySWEET® process is a hybrid solvent process developed by TOTAL and licensed by PROSERNAT. The solvent is a blend of alkanolamine and physical solvent diluted with water. The physical component has been selected by TOTAL in order to simultaneously achieve a high level of mercaptan’s absorption with a relatively low level of hydrocarbon co-absorption. Thanks to its specific solvent formulation HySWEET® exhibits major advantages compared to other gas sweetening process and constitute a major breakthrough in gas sweetening technologies:
* Simultaneous removal of acid gases and mercaptans
* Reboiler energy requirements about 10% less than equivalent amine based processes
* Limited hydrocarbon co-absorption (compared with other hybrid solvent or physical solvent processes) , keeping hydrocarbon content in acid gas normally below 1% vol, compatible with direct  Claus treatment
* Possibility to adjust solvent composition to meet the required mercaptans/acid gas removal specifications

HySWEET® process is applicable for any type of gas containing mercaptans, including the regeneration gases from molecular sieve units, thus offering an optimized and integrated scheme for the complete gas sweetening chain. The high energy efficiency of HySWEET® solvent in terms of lower reboiling duty requirements enables easy solvent swap to convert an existing gas sweetening unit operated with a conventional amine process into HySWEET® by simple addition of the physical solvent component. This allows an easy boost of mercaptans pick-up in an existing AGRU.
