ExxonMobil technology selected by SINOPEC for new Beijing lubricants plant
ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (EMRE) and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) jointly announced today that SINOPEC has selected EMRE's Selective Dewaxing Catalyst (MSDWTM) technology for a grass-roots catalytic lube plant to be constructed at the refinery of SINOPEC Beijing Yanshan Company (SINOPEC Yanshan). The grass-roots MSDW Unit configuration efficiently utilizes the available unconverted oil (UCO) feed stock from a new hydrocracking unit for production of Group II+ and III lube base oils, ranging from 4 to 10 cSt in viscosity grade. SINOPEC Yanshan MSDW unit capacity will be 268 kT per year of unconverted oil.
"We're very pleased SINOPEC has chosen our MSDW technology for the new Yanshan lubricants facility," said Samuel Tabak, Fuels Licensing Executive with EMRE's Technology Sales and Licensing division.
Since 1997 EMRE’s MSDW process has been deployed in multiple units worldwide with proven operational reliability and extended catalyst life. Over this period, significant catalyst performance improvements and process optimizations have been introduced and incorporated into new plant designs. MSDW catalyst is a leader in producing Group II and Group III lube base oils worldwide. The SINOPEC Yanshan unit, the first MSDW unit in China, will operate with state-of-the-art lube selective dewaxing catalyst (MSDW) and hydrofinishing (MAXSATTM) catalyst.
