Emerson introduces new 2-wire coriolis flow meter
Emerson has released the Micro Motion 4200 2-wire loop-powered Coriolis transmitter, a new design that makes it possible to replace existing 2-wire flow devices with minimal effort and without incurring additional power or cabling costs. The device can accommodate the largest line size (4 in) of any 2-wire flow meter on the market and is the only such product to offer an onboard real-time clock for improved diagnostics. The unit is available in a remote-mount option for applications that require the transmitter to be located separately from the sensor.
The 4200 transmitter provides a viable migration path where Coriolis meters were previously not practical as a 2-wire solution, either due to restrictions on running additional wiring or a lack of power sources. By using existing wires and eliminating the need for AC panels and transformers, the 4200 shortens engineering and planning time and reduces installation safety hazards. The unit is also an ideal solution for greenfield applications where it is necessary to minimise wiring costs without compromising on measurement performance.
The new meter provides highly accurate and repeatable mass flow and density measurements, which enables users to optimise production, improve safety by preventing spill hazards due to overfilling, improve cost allocation and product usage, improve throughput and optimise reaction time. To ensure reliability, the device comes standard with Smart Meter Verification, the only 2-wire Coriolis meter diagnostic tool on the market that checks the structural integrity of the tubes. The data historian, with up to 14 days of storage and a real-time clock, facilitates troubleshooting by time-stamping process data, audit trails and reports. A touch control display provides a simplified user experience and reduces commissioning time. The 4200 is also SIL 2-capable with single use and SIL 3-capable with multiple meters.
“Coriolis 2-wire flow meters offer an accurate and repeatable flow and density measurement that can maximise plant efficiency and reduce waste,” said Anthony Gentile, product marketing manager at Emerson Automation Solutions. “By replacing unreliable legacy 2-wire flow meters with Coriolis 2-wire, the existing wiring can be reused, lowering planning, engineering and installation costs.”
