Joe Gentry receives lifetime achievement award from Hydrocarbon Processing

Joseph C. Gentry was honored with Hydrocarbon Processing’s ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Award at the publication’s annual awards presentation. The awards seek to recognize and honor the hydrocarbon processing industry’s top innovations and innovators.

Honorees received awards in 15 categories–13 encompassing the latest technological advances in the hydrocarbon processing industry and two people awards, from the live-streamed, virtual event. These innovations are enabling refinery, petrochemical and gas processing/LNG operators to optimize their operations and increase safety, efficiency, profitability and sustainability. More than 100 nominations were submitted from more than a dozen countries. Each abstract was voted on by an independent Hydrocarbon Processing advisory board.

Born in Alabama, Joe completed his BS degree in chemical engineering at Auburn University. After graduation, he moved to the Houston area to start his career with Lyondell Petrochemical Co. as a Senior Engineer. He was responsible for efficiency improvements and capacity expansion of BTX and PX plants, using low and no-cost capital ideas. He provided process design, optimization, operations support and economic analysis of olefins, aromatics and refining units at two world-scale facilities. While at Lyondell, Joe earned an MBA at the University of Houston. Since the formation of GTC, the company has experienced unprecedented growth due in large part to Joe’s vision, expertise and dedication. Sulzer GTC’s dozens of successful licenses throughout the world have gained recognition in the aromatics and refining fields for their innovation and exceptional results.
