Topsoe launches new sulphuric acid catalyst

Topsoe has developed a new sulphuric acid catalyst for operation in converted strong gases.

Activity leap
The catalyst designated VK-701 LEAP5™ has shown significant activity advantages compared to existing potassium and caesium-promoted catalysts.

The high activity offered by VK-701 LEAP5™ presents new conversion opportunities for any single- and double-absorption plants.

“We are pleased to present our clients with a new and improved catalyst, which will reduce their SO2 emissions significantly,” says Lene Hansen, General Manager, Marketing Sulphuric Acid.

The V5+ oxidation state
The catalyst has been developed in-house by Topsoe’s researchers, and the new VK-701 LEAP5™ exhibits a major leap in activity based on physical and chemical changes enhancing the amount of the active vanadium in oxidation state V5+.
