New Topsøe methanol plant in Russia

On 20 October 2011 the official ceremony of commissioning of the new 1350 MTPD Topsøe methanol plant took place in OAO ShchekinoAzot, Russia. The contract for engineering and supply between Haldor Topsøe A/S and OAO ShchekinoAzot was signed in 2007. Topsøe's scope included license, basic engineering and supplies of equipment: Secondary reformer with CTS burner, methanol reactor, waste heat boilers, steam drums and Topsøe catalysts.

The new 1350 MTPD Topsøe methanol plant is the first modern methanol plant constructed in Russia since 1984.

Construction of the new methanol plant is the first step in cooperation between the parties in modernisation of existing facilities of OAO ShchekinoAzot with the aim to create the state-of-art highly integrated petrochemical and fertilizer complex. The next step is construction of a new hydrogen plant in 2012.

The methanol plant has reached 100% load with the anticipated consumption figures and product quality.

Dr. Haldor Topsøe stated through a video clip that he hoped “that the result and operation of the plant will further cement the basis for OAO ShchekinoAzot moving ahead under the leadership of Mr Sokol and his very gifted staff”.
