GE‘s new, compact D800 diaphragm replacement meter

Building on its heritage of innovation for the natural gas industry, GE is launching the Dresser D800 Diaphragm Replacement Meter, designed for long-term accuracy and advanced performance in low–flow applications.

“Low-flow performance is a key feature of the D800 that we believe will shift existing paradigms and change customer preference,” said Dave Evans, general manager, Dresser meters and instruments, Measurement & Control for GE Oil & Gas. “We have 80 years of experience with a rotary meter design, and our customers fully understand the long-term performance capabilities of our products. Now we are able to offer a compact, drop-in replacement meter that resolves existing performance issues with diaphragm meters, provides excellent low-flow measurement, helps reduce the potential for strain-related injuries and is available at an affordable price.”

The performance of the D800 can surpass that of the 600-class and 1000-class diaphragm meters, providing customers with the opportunity to standardize to a single meter set and the associated peripherals.

The D800 offers the advantage of a 50 percent weight reduction (24 pounds vs. 50 pounds) and a 70 percent size reduction compared with previous products; this enables easier and less costly shipping, handling, installation and storage. The size advantage also is a key consideration in preventing strain-related injuries and potentially reduces the number of personnel required to transport and install the meter, in accordance with EHS standards. It also enhances the aesthetics of the product, which come into play when the meter is placed in public locations such as in front of a business or restaurant.
