Battle of Santa Inés refinery to open by the end of November 2013

Asdrúbal Chávez, Vice President of Refining, Marketing and Supply of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), monitored the progress of the construction of the Battle of Santa Inés Refinery, which will be located inside the Santa Inés Agro-industrial Complex (Cominsi) and will be able to process 100,000 barrels per day of crude oil.

The PDVSA Vice President was accompanied by Rafael Gómez, the president of the Barinas Socialist Infrastructure Corporation (Corsobain), and Gabriel Oliveros, the Executive Director of New Refinery Projects, Oil Upgraders and Terminals. They visited the area where earth moving is currently carried out to establish four huge building sites in which the process plants (atmospheric distillation, naphtha hydrotreating and catalytic reforming), the storage yards and storage tanks, operational buildings and industrial service units will be built.

PDVSA’s Vice President of Refining said that although weather conditions in the region have had some impact on the progress of these works, construction continues at a good pace and will be completed by November.

He reported that the administrative process related to engineering, recruiting and procurement of major equipment for the new plant continues at the same time. The first phase of the plant will be ready by the end of 2013.

“The construction of this refinery is a source of pride for the people of the state of Barinas, and its operation will open the doors for a great development for this entity and its neighboring states”, the PDVSA executive said.
