Linde supports Bosch in developing cleaner automotive technologies

Linde Gases, a division of The Linde Group, today announced the completion of a major gas supply system installation, along with supply of high purity specialty gases for BOSCH, to aid the development of cleaner automotive technology. BOSCH will use these sophisticated gases supplied by Linde via a custom built delivery system to test automotive components at their laboratory in Èeské Budìjovice in the Czech Republic.

BOSCH will be using Linde’s high precision gas mixtures to test automotive oxygen sensors. The oxygen sensor is a vital mechanism which measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust of gasoline engines, ensuring they operate with maximum efficiency and fuel economy. Ultimately, they enable the vehicles to operate while burning the minimum fuel required, reducing both cost and impact on the environment.

“The contract with BOSCH is the latest development in Linde’s role in the automotive supply chain, demonstrating our essential work in helping to create cleaner technologies across the sector,” said Martin Schlögl, Specialty Gases, Chemicals and Refrigerants Manager, Linde Gas Czech Republic.

BOSCH uses gas mixtures to simulate exhaust emissions in order to test oxygen sensors in a controlled laboratory environment. Gases supplied by Linde replicate and simulate the gas mixtures that exist inside gasoline engines and their exhausts. Using an innovative stock management system, based on pressure differences in the cylinders to determine residual contents, BOSCH maximises inventory control to ensure timely re-ordering of the specialty gases and reliable, continuous testing operations.

Václav Pixa, technical plant manager at BOSCH commented: “Quality control procedures are essential in any automotive supply chain, and at BOSCH we require extremely precise gas mixtures to accurately simulate the exhaust of gasoline engines. Linde’s gas system ensures maximum convenience and continuity of gas supply, enabling un-disrupted laboratory activity.”

Manufactured in Prague, the specialty gases supplied to BOSCH are held to international standard ISO17025, ensuring quality of supply, and tested according to the internationally recognised ISO34 standard.
