After a 4 months shut down for maintenance, Fushun Petrochemical Company’s 800,000 t/y ethylene unit has smoothly restarted in one-try and began producing quality products after 15 hours on November 2th, reported by Mao Jun and Yang Yan.

The second start took 50 hours less than the first time, and set the record for low flaring without natural gas and superior high-pressure steam for China refining industry, achieving their expected targets of “low load, low emission, low loss, low risk and success in one-try”.

The 800,000 t/y ethylene unit first came into operation in October 2012 and is the leading unit for Fushun “Ten-Million-Ton Refining and Million-Ton Ethylene Project”. It was shut down from May 17 to June 12 of 2013 for maintenance and operation optimisation. Fushun Petrochemical Company has carried out “five optimisation actions” technical improvements on 1011 items, perfected feed and product storage, cogeneration steam turbine system, and safety and environment facilities, eliminated potential risks on No. 2 cold box and the rotor of ethylene high-pressure cylinder, and debottlenecked unit long-cycle operation limits on safety and stability.

The 800,000 t/y ethylene unit is expected to bring benefits for Fushun refining and chemical production balance, achieving optimal and efficient operation, and promoting local economic growth.
