ZeoGas secures Air Liquide MegaMethanol technology license

ZeoGas LLC secures MegaMethanol® technology license from Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions, a subsidiary of Air Liquide Group, the world leader in gases, technologies and services for Industry and Health. When completed, the production capacity of the licensed facility will be 5,000 metric tons per day of Grade AA methanol. ZeoGas will operate the MegaMethanol plant for its own account, using the methanol as feedstock to produce 16,500 barrels per day of sulfur-free, ultra-low benzene, regular octane gasoline.

MegaMethanol technology, which is part of Air Liquide’s proprietary Lurgi technology portfolio, generates optimum syngas composition, required for downstream methanol synthesis and production. MegaMethanol is a proven and efficient technology. It requires lower investment per metric ton of production than smaller-scale production technologies.

“ZeoGas is committed to using only use-proven, commercial-scale technologies to build a portfolio of plants to convert clean-burning natural gas to sulfur-free, ultra-low benzene gasoline, and MegaMethanol is the proven, reliable and efficient technology we selected to produce the amount of methanol needed to feed our gasoline production process. We are pleased to have accomplished this milestone in our development,” Said Timothy D. Belton, Founder and CEO of ZeoGas.

David Muse, ZeoGas co-founder and COO said: “MegaMethanol is only the start of the journey. ZeoGas expects to deploy larger, ‘giga-scale’ methanol production technology to achieve our long-term growth objectives. Air Liquide’s involvement provides significant commercial confidence in the engineering and procurement of the critical component of our methanol solution.”

“ZeoGas has been focused on the environmental permitting and compliance requirements for a major project like this one from the outset. Work has already begun with environmental and technical experts to assure not only that ZeoGas obtains requisite pre-construction permits within its development schedule, but also that key aspects of ZeoGas’ environmental management system and compliance assurance program are fully integrated. The ZeoGas plant will be a ‘best-in-class’ example of an operationally and commercially successful facility with compliance as a core competency. We intend to do the right things for the environment, our employees and the communities in which we operate, ” said Jeri P. Wechsler, ZeoGas co-founder and General Counsel.
