JGC awarded FEED contract for FLNG project in Nigeria
JGC Holdings Corporation announced today that JGC Corporation which operates the overseas engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business of the JGC Group, in partnership with Technip Energies, has been awarded the contract for the front end engineering and design (FEED) of the floating liquified natural gas (FLNG) facility project in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, pioneered by UTM FLNG Limited.
Last year, UTM Offshore Limited, an indigenous private company engaged primarily in crude oil sales and an established provider of marine logistic support services to the oil and gas sector, being the parent company of UTM FLNG Limited, awarded the contract for the conceptual design services to JGC Corporation. Consequently, the consortium of JGC Corporation and Technip Energies has now been awarded the contract for the FEED of a FLNG plant producing 1.2 million tons per annum of LNG and other products including LPG and condensate, with the completion date for the FEED slated for December 2023.
JGC Corporation will be primarily responsible for the topside (LNG production facilities) design, while Technip Energies will be responsible for the hull and the mooring system design.
We believe this award duly reflects the satisfaction of the client with the conceptual design performed by JGC Corporation as well as the outstanding track record and project execution capabilities of the JGC Group and Technip Energies in the field of FLNG. Upon completion of the FEED, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase is envisaged and, if realized, this will be the first FLNG facility in Nigeria and a milestone project for the country.
There are numerous undeveloped small-scale offshore oil and gas fields not only in Nigeria but also in other African countries, with various projects planned including FLNG plants.
JGC Corporation has delivered the EPC for two such FLNG facilities: for PETRONAS in Malaysia, and together with Technip Energies for Coral FLNG SA in Mozambique. Through the UTM FLNG project, we aim to expand our business in Africa, expected to grow in the future, and contribute to the further development of industry and infrastructure.
