Nexans to supply low voltage cables to Karbala refinery
Nexans has been awarded a contract by HDGSK Joint Venture to supply a low voltage cable system for the Karbala Refinery Project in Iraq. Iraq’s State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) will rely on Nexans low voltage (LV) cables for the Karbala Refinery Project. The contract was awarded by HDGSK, a Joint Venture of four major Korean engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies: Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Engineering; GS Engineering & Construction; and SK Engineering & Construction. As part of the contract, Nexans will manufacture and supply 3,500km of LV cables for Karbala Refinery Project.
The new Karbala Refinery Project is the largest contract won by Korean EPCs to date; it is worth over 6 billion dollars. In this framework, HDGSK will build an oil refinery capable of processing 140,000 barrels of crude oil a day into LPG, gasoline, diesel and other petrochemical products in Karbala, a city 120 kilometres south of Bagdad, Iraq. Completion is expected in 2020.
Nexans’ LV cable system will be equipped with PVC hydrocarbon resistance which features high performance. Based on our global network of technical know-how, Nexans succeeded to fulfil customer’s technology requirements.
In-Koo Kang, Chief Executive Officer, Nexans, Korea, said, “We are pleased to be a part of major overseas project with HDGSK. A long standing relationship with our customer and our solution to optimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the installation were the key to winning this contract. Committed to customer satisfaction, Nexans has been developing products in response to customer demand.”
