RefComm® hosts Its 17th annual training, conference & exhibition

RefComm® Galveston 2018 will be held May 7 - 11, 2018 at the Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center in Galveston, TX. This marks the 17th year for the event, which is produced by Refining Community and is regarded as the most trusted safety and technical conference for the Delayed Coking, Fluid Catalytic Cracking, and Sulfur Recovery industries worldwide.

This year, RefComm® will be held in three locations worldwide. In addition to the annual May event in Galveston, Texas, RefComm® will also be held in Valencia, Spain in October and Buenos Aires, Argentina in November. Moving forward, RefComm® will be hosted three times a year in strategically located cities worldwide. The conference provides a venue for engineers, operators, and technicians to learn about new technology and safety practices, share lessons learned and best practices, and make new connections. A core technical training program is also conveniently offered in conjunction with concentrated conference programming and an exhibition offering excellent networking opportunities.

“The main goal of RefComm® is that we, as an industry, come together under the flag of safety,” says Refining Community Owner and Delayed Coking SME Gary Pitman.

Refining Community, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, was created in 1998 as an online resource for refiners, operators, engineers, and EPCs to share expertise and stories from the field. Over the decades, the company has expanded to provide consulting and training services.

Twenty years later, Refining Community has remained true to its core mission of sharing information. The company operates Coking.com, CatCracking.com, and SulfurUnit.com, which provide DCU, FCCU, and SRU personnel with the best tool in their toolkit: information.

“A great fireman is one that never goes out,” Pitman says. “Prevention is key. You want the fireman polishing the engine, not putting out fires all the time. It’s the same in the oil refining business. I want the preventive care to be so dialed in that the operator is still doing his job but not out scrambling all the time.”
