• New constructed crude tank (Double Deck Pontoon Floating Roof) is going receive crude oil (29 API). What should be the status of the tank? Filled with water just up to floating level or keep the tank empty?

  • Srinivasa Reddy, KIPIC, v.reddy@kipic.com.kw

For receipt of crude into floating roof tank, keep tank in empty condition before receipt. Receipt rates to be controlled and limit the receipt inlet lines velocity to maximum 1 m/s till the roof floats. Above the roof floating levels, receipt rates can be increased to design flows.
