  • How can I know there is weak acids in crude oil and what's the effect of weak acid on the overhead conditions in the crude distillation unit?

    Weak acids can be present in crude oils form production chemicals, they can also form form the themeral degration of Naph Acids in the furnaces.. the impact on the overhead is one that can increase neutraliser demand . Since the weak acids create a senario wher ethe more you neutralize the more you generate free acid (buffering) , hence one could over treat with neutraliser to the point where the ovhd water becomes corrosive even at pH of 7-7.5... if this is a suspected issue the easiest approach is to add neutraliser to  a pH of 5.5 -6.0 and increase the filming amine 2-3 X normal dosage
