Honeywell UOP to discuss offshore natural gas processing technology during 2012 Rio Gas

UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, announced today that it will discuss natural gas processing solutions for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels at the upcoming Rio Gas Forum in Brazil.

UOP is a leader in petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing and hydrogen technology.

Rebecca Liebert, vice president and general manager for gas processing and hydrogen at Honeywell’s UOP, will discuss the UOP Separex™ membrane system and adsorbent technology, which is increasingly being used to process natural gas on FPSO vessels. Liebert is slated to present on March 21.

“Honeywell’s UOP Separex technology can be used for many gas treating applications, but is ideal for offshore gas processing due to its solvent-free, compact design allowing for operational simplicity,” said Liebert. “We are pleased to participate in this year’s Rio Gas Forum, and we look forward to discussing how this advanced technology can help gas processors maximize acid gas removal and deliver concentrated carbon dioxide for sequestration, while minimizing their total installed cost, energy consumption and maintenance requirements.”

Honeywell’s UOP gas processing technologies upgrade natural gas streams by removing carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, mercury and water vapor. These contaminants must be removed to meet the quality standards specified for pipeline transmission. Liebert will also discuss the UOP-Twister® Supersonic Gas Separator System, the newest addition to the gas processing portfolio, which is used to recover natural gas liquids.

An FPSO using Honeywell’s UOP Separex membrane system, and adsorbents to remove carbon dioxide and water, was commissioned in July 2011 to process 5 million standard cubic meters of natural gas per day from the Lula oil field off the coast of Brazil. A second FPSO using this technology is expected to be commissioned in September 2012. To date, 130 UOP membrane units have been installed worldwide.

In August 2011, Honeywell UOP opened a new office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to better serve the needs of the growing oil and natural gas sector in Latin America. The office employs technical experts to provide project development and engineering services. It also provides support for process technology, catalysts, adsorbents and specialty equipment from Honeywell’s UOP, as well as automation control solutions from Honeywell Process Solutions.
