It’s time to give your reactor some HELPsc™

Excessive pressure drop build-up issues in hydroprocessing reactors are often keeping units from delivering maximum value. Refiners are forced to perform premature shutdowns for costly catalyst skimming operations resulting in lost profit.

Topsoe’s High-Efficiency Liquid Phase scale catcher (HELPsc™) is a specialized patent-pending reactor internal technology that works in synergy with the graded bed. Installation of the technology will significantly prolong the cycle lengths of units suffering from pressure drop problems due to plugging of the catalyst bed with particulates originating from feed or upstream equipment.

Reliable and efficient scale catching for optimal performance
Topsoe’s HELPsc™ scale catching technology is an integrated solution combining sophisticated mechanical equipment and tailored graded catalysts. The HELPsc™ technology consists of individual parts which easily fit through the reactor manway and allow for simple assembly inside the reactor. The cassettes containing low-activity catalysts can easily be replaced during shut-down, minimizing costly cleaning procedures inside the reactor.

Minimum pressure drop during the full catalyst cycle
The intelligent design of the HELPsc™ technology eliminates the pressure drop build-up during the entire life cycle of the unit. If the scale catching capacity is reached during the cycle, the feed will bypass the HELPsc™ technology without causing an additional pressure drop.

High filtration capability to guard the catalyst bed
The filters in the HELPsc™ system are able to catch even the smallest particles. Particle size analyses show that 50% of the collected particles in the filters are smaller than 10 μm. This protects the catalyst bed and ensures longer cycle lenght.

Custom-made design enables easy retrofitting in existing reactors
Each HELPsc™ technology is tailor-made for each reactor and is installed above the reactor tangent line or existing top distribution tray. It is therefore not necessary to reduce the catalyst volume inside the reactor.

Advantages
- Improves reactor scale catching efficiency
- Simple and fast scale catching cassette replacement during turn-around
- Ensures minimum pressure drop build-up during the entire cycle
* Easily retrofits to existing reactors
