ABB motor solutions set turbomachinery and pump standards

ABB, a global leader in innovative electric motor manufacturing, has raised the bar in the turbomachinery and pump industry. At the recent Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia (TPS), ABB highlighted its high-performance motor solutions that lead the industry in reliability and energy efficiency.

“The turbomachinery and pump industry rely on equipment that can withstand harsh conditions to allow operations to keep pace with the industry’s growing demand,” said Todd Huston, ABB Global Segment Manager. “ABB provides customizable solutions to meet the requirements of specific applications and monitoring systems to assess the health of a motor to prevent unexpected downtime.”

The turbomachinery market is projected to increase at a compound annual rate of 4% by 2028 (Mordor Intelligence, 2022) driven by a rise in industrialization and global population, in addition to the industry’s reliance on oil and gas. Due to this, it is essential for applications to have reliable motors and applications to prevent production disruption.

ABB manufactures motors specifically for hazardous environments. ABB’s explosion-proof (XP) motors prevent sparks in low and high-voltage AC and DC motors and generators. The sealed enclosure is designed to contain any internal explosions, preventing them from igniting the surrounding atmosphere. Additionally, ABB’s Severe duty motors like XT, XEX, and IEEE 841, are designed to protect against contamination, moisture, vibration and demanding duty cycles, making them ideal for enduring rugged environments. Along with the close-coupled and jet pump motors, ABB provides solutions for wet and humid conditions.

ABB NEMA P-base motor LP100, a recent addition to ABB NEMA low voltage motors, delivers horizontal and vertical induction motors resilient to harsh environments and surpassing NEMA Premium efficiency. With features like ceramic bearings and high capabilities, LP100 motors are adaptable for different applications and requirements.

ABB's Baldor-Reliance NEMA motors offer cost-effective solutions for energy saving and productivity. The EC titanium motors are built in compliance with IE5 standards to reach up to 16% improvement efficiency when operating at partial load and speed, therefore saving energy which lowers operational costs. When paired with the ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor, end-users can optimize the performance by assessing motor health to combat potential failures. ABB’s RPM XE eXtreme efficient motors enhance energy efficiency in industrial and commercial centrifugal load applications and combine the reliable and cost-effective starting characteristics of induction motors with the performance advantages of synchronous motors.

ABB’s extensive portfolio of electric motors is built to meet the evolving and robust demands of the turbomachinery industry.
