Question

  • Our fuel gas Fired Heater was commissioned in 2015 and then a failure of the refractory occurred in 2019. Failure also occurred in the BMS. Failure of refractory was confirmed after an intrusive inspection. There's uncertainty on the main cause of refractory failure. Early indication revealed a possibility of faulty temperature and air intake control system. Subsequent failures occured after the refractory change out pointing to a possibility of material defect/insufficient curing and commissioning protocols.

Will appreciate contribution on how to deal with this problem. We are currently considering options of retrofitting a new Burner System on the Heater or a complete change out in the future. I wish to convince management on business case for a retrofit option. Thanks for being here for us.
