Alfa Laval acquires technology to further drive sustainable energy solutions
Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – today announces that it has signed an agreement to acquire certain technologies and activities, with sales of SEK 14 million LTM June 2018, from Airec – a Malmö, Sweden-based innovation company with patented technology for dimple asymmetry heat exchangers. The new company will be integrated into the Brazed & Fusion Bonded Heat Exchangers unit of the Energy Division. The acquired technology – in combination with Alfa Laval’s existing heat transfer know-how, manufacturing footprint and global market presence – represents untapped opportunities. The closing is expected early January 2019.
The technology for dimple asymmetrical heat exchangers opens many interesting markets and applications for Alfa Laval, especially in gas-handling duties. For example, heat exchangers designed to handle gas temperatures at very high levels as would be the case in boilers and instantaneous water heaters.
“It is an interesting acquisition that fits very well with our ambitions to continue to drive growth within brazed and fusion bonded heat exchangers,” says Susanne Pahlén Åklundh, President of Alfa Laval’s Energy Division. “Through the acquisition we gain speed to the market as we do not need to develop the technology ourselves. The technology fits very well into our manufacturing, processes and existing sales channels.”
