VTTI moves to next phase for project Amplifhy following strong market interest

VTTI, a global leader in energy storage and infrastructure, is pleased to announce that following a strong market response to its request for expressions of interest, it is now progressing to the next phase of the open season: negotiation of Heads of Agreements. This strategic project is designed to support the large-scale import of hydrogen and strengthen the hydrogen supply chain for the European Union.

Tom Smeenk, Executive Vice President Growth, commented: “The start of the negotiations for Heads of Agreement with interested parties marks an important step forward in our mission to develop Europe’s future hydrogen infrastructure. This phase represents a key milestone as we work toward establishing leading ammonia storage and cracking facilities for the import of hydrogen – supporting Europe’s 2030 hydrogen and decarbonization goals and driving the transition to a more sustainable energy system.”

Project Amplifhy includes the development of ammonia import terminals and cracking facilities at VTTI’s strategic locations in Rotterdam and Antwerp. These facilities are set to play an important role in enabling the large-scale import and conversion of clean ammonia into hydrogen, a key carrier of green energy, to help decarbonize the European economy.

The Amplifhy projects have been recognized as a Project of Common Interest (PCI) by the European Commission, underscoring its critical role in the EU’s energy transition. As part of this recognition, VTTI has secured around €20 million in co-funding to support the development of the Amplifhy Rotterdam and Antwerp. Click here to read more about Project Amplifhy.
