Albemarle Corporation, headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a premier specialty chemicals company with leading positions in attractive end markets around the world through its four global business units (GBUs): Refining Solutions, Bromine Specialties, Lithium & Advanced Materials and Chemetall Surface Treatment.

Refining Solutions consists of Heavy Oil Upgrading, which is primarily composed of Fuidized Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalysts and Additives, and Clean Fuels Technologies, which is primarily composed of Hydroprocessing Catalysts (HPC). Albemarle is focused on providing intelligent catalysts that apply to the entire refinery process: a proprietary approach to catalysis that combines catalysts from our world-class portfolio, leveraging the knowledge and knowhow of the industry’s most experienced team.

Albemarle’s FCC Catalysts assist in the high yield cracking of less desired refinery petroleum streams into derivative, higher-value products such as transportation fuels and petrochemical feedstocks like propylene. Our FCC Additives are used to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide in FCC units and to increase liquefied petroleum gas olefins yield, such as propylene, and to boost octane in gasoline. Albemarle offers unique refinery catalysts to crack and treat the lightest to the heaviest feedstocks while meeting refinery yield and product needs.

Albemarle’s HPC products are widely applied throughout the refining industry, including tailored solutions for Hydrotreating, Hydrocracking, Alkylation, Isomerization  and Guard Bed applications. Their application enables the upgrading of oil fractions to clean fuels and other usable oil products by removing sulfur, nitrogen and other impurities from the feedstock. In addition, they improve product properties by adding hydrogen and in some cases improve the performance of downstream catalysts and processes. Albemarle also offers, a robust portfolio of Chemical Catalysts including Oxychlorination Catalysts, Methylamine Catalysts and Speciality Zeolites used in the manufacturing of PVC, methylamines, hydrogen, ammonia and other industrial chemicals

At Albemarle, we continually seek new ways to make our clients more successful, developing new catalysts and new ways of applying catalysts that create more value. We are a technology- and data-driven organization, and we know what works because we have decades of experience and decades of data to support our recommendations. Making our clients more successful through better products, deeper application understanding, close relationships and unparalleled technical support is what drives each of us every day.

We work hard to understand each client’s unique challenges and goals. That’s why our senior, most experienced catalyst specialists make refinery visits themselves to ensure that expert assistance and advice are provided immediately. We are inspired not by our past but by our future – and the future potential of our clients.
